Our landlord next to the new laser crate

The New Laser Arrived!

It came on Wednesday, Nov 19th. Our brand new BOSS HP-2440, 155 watt CO2 laser. We've been wanting a higher power laser for a long time. We were finally able to purchase this in part thanks to a Community Betterment Grant from Prairie Meadows. The rest was funded through member support.

Laser Stewards Lia and Brad spent the day - along with our awesome landlord, Jerry - carefully unpacking and making sure everything was there.

We didn't actually get the laser into the laser room until the next evening at Space Clean Up night. Many thanks to all the members who came!

Laser cutter/engravers should always be vented outside. Our old lasers had 4" diameter ducts connected to exterior vents. This new laser though required 6" ducts.
This metal plate was surprised when it realized its holes needed to be widened to accomodate the new 6" diameter exhaust ducts.

On Saturday, Brad and Dave - our president - worked on replacing the 4" exhaust vents with the new 6" ones.
Note: orange cones deployed for safety!

The Laser Stewards will continue working to get the new laser all set up and running. They'll make an announcement once it's ready for members to get training.
