Where Science Meets Art

Where Science Meets Art

In the 1950s, pioneering artists and engineers began using oscilloscopes to visualize sound waves, leading to the birth of this unique art form. By the 1960s, artists like Ben Laposky and Harold Cohen pushed boundaries, turning electronic signals into captivating visual patterns synchronized with sound. This marriage of science and creativity opened up new dimensions in both fields.

Fast forward to this summer and Area 515 member Matt got an earworm to put an image on the oscilloscope at the space. After a lot of research, experiments, and refinement, Matt accomplished his goal and proudly displayed the Area 515 on the oscilloscope during tonight's open house.
