New Prusa Core1 Acquired by 3D Printing Area

At their January meeting, the Board of Directors voted to purchase a new Prusa Core1 3D printer. Like many Prusa products, there is a discount if you assemble it yourself.

Consequently, please be sure to thank 3D Printing Stewards Matt and John for spending their entire Saturday assembling this latest addition to our 3D Printing room!

In addition to being faster than older Prusa models, the Core1 moves the extruder in both the X and Y axis. Previous models moved the entire print bed in the X axis, and the extruder in the Y. The upshot of this change is that since the extruder is more light weight than the whole print bed, Core1 prints should feature less ringing* in the Y axis.

The new Core1 has now finished being assembled, and is ready for members to train on and use right away.

 

* Ringing, also called ghosting, occurs when there is vibration within the printer from accelerating components and/or lack of rigidity. For more see the following posts elsewhere on the inter-tubes:
